Porterhouse Night: What to Pair With the Classic Cut
The porterhouse gives you two steaks in one: strip loin on one side, tenderloin on the other, with the bone running between them. It's a generous cut for a proper night in, and it doesn't need a lot of help. But picking the right sides turns a good meal into a great one.
Here's what works alongside a porterhouse, using what we actually carry.
The steak itself
Our Classic Butter-Aged Porterhouse is ₱999 per pack: USDA Angus, butter-aged 28 days. The aging softens the fibres and rounds the flavour, so the beef is already doing most of the work before you turn on the stove. Cook it to medium-rare, rest it properly, and it holds its own against anything you put next to it. For the searing method, the steps in how to cook a ribeye at home apply directly to a porterhouse.
Mashed potato and gravy
Nothing sits next to a bone-in steak better than a smooth, buttery mash and a proper gravy. Our Idahoan Mashed Potato (₱219) makes a consistent, creamy mash in minutes: add hot water or milk, mix, done. No peeling, no timers. Pair it with the Beef & Herb Gravy Mix (₱59), which makes a gravy that picks up the steak's resting juices when you deglaze the pan. Those two together are ₱278 and leave you free to focus entirely on the sear.
This is the combination most customers reach for first, and it's the one to default to for a weeknight dinner.
Mix Veggies
Fat from the steak, richness from the gravy. Something on the table needs to cut through both. Our Mix Veggies (₱79) are the simplest answer. Stir-fry them in the same pan after the steak is resting, or cook them separately. They're not a showpiece; they're what makes the plate feel complete without adding more richness to an already rich meal.
Cajun Fries
Cajun Fries (₱99) are the right call when it's a proper occasion. Well-seasoned, a little smoky, easy to put in the middle of the table. They work alongside the beef's seasoning without competing, and they're satisfying enough to eat on their own. If you're feeding more than two, fries and mash together give you two different starches without repeating flavour.
Pasta on the side
On nights when you want more on the table, both pasta kits hold up well alongside a porterhouse. The Creamy Truffle Pasta Kit (₱239) has an earthy, umami-forward note that pairs naturally with butter-aged beef. The Creamy Pesto Pasta Kit (₱249) is lighter and brighter, a better pick if you've already got gravy on the table and don't want to double up on heaviness. Either one works as a main side if the steak is sharing the table with guests who want a fuller plate.
Adding a sausage for a bigger table
If you're feeding a family or a hungrier group, the Hungarian Sausage 5pcs (₱349) or Cheesy Frankfurters 5pcs (₱349) alongside the steak give extra protein without complicating the main event. The kids eat the sausages; the adults split the porterhouse. It's a practical arrangement for a handa that doesn't require cooking two big steaks.
