Wagyu vs Angus Philippines: The Difference, With Peso Prices

Wagyu vs Angus in the Philippines comes down to breed before anything else: wagyu is Japanese cattle bred to lay fat down inside the muscle, and Angus is a British beef breed, raised in the US as USDA Angus, that carries more of its fat around the muscle than through it. Both are real premium beef, and neither one is a grade of the other. Prices verified August 2026.

What Is the Difference Between Wagyu and Angus?

The difference between wagyu and Angus is breed, not a quality tier. Wagyu is a group of Japanese cattle breeds that marble heavily inside the muscle, which is why a raw cut looks webbed with white. Angus is a British beef breed, raised in the US and graded by the USDA, that reads leaner and beefier on the plate.

Everything else follows from that one fact. Japanese wagyu is scored on marbling with the A5 and BMS system. American Angus is graded by the USDA, and the well-marbled Angus we buy becomes our Classic Butter-Aged range, sealed in butter for 28 days before it is portioned. The wagyu we carry is Saikoro, Japanese-style cube-cut wagyu from NK Foods and Foodlabo. We do not sell A5 ribeye, and we do not pretend the cubes are the same thing.

Which Is More Tender, Wagyu or Angus?

Wagyu is the more tender of the two because its fat sits inside the muscle and melts at a lower temperature than ordinary beef fat, basting the meat from within as it cooks. Angus is tender in a different way, firmer and chewier in the good sense, holding a steakhouse bite that very heavy marbling can wash out.

That difference decides how you cook each one. Saikoro cubes want one to two minutes total on a screaming-hot pan. A butter-aged Angus ribeye wants a longer, more patient sear and a proper rest. The Classic Gold Ribeye 1 kg pack is the one most of our customers learn on.

Is Wagyu Better Than Angus?

Wagyu is not better than Angus, it is richer. A full kilo of wagyu cubes is a lot of fat to get through in one sitting, and plenty of people would rather have a butter-aged Angus ribeye with rice and sides. Wagyu wins on tenderness and on the first bite. Angus wins on beefiness and on appetite.

One thing worth conceding: "Saikoro" describes the dice cut, not a grade, and cube products vary by producer. That is why we sell branded packs and print the brand, weight and grade on every label. The Saikoro Wagyu range lists the specifics for each one.

Wagyu vs Angus Philippines: What Each Pack Costs

Wagyu costs less per kilo than butter-aged Angus in our range, which surprises most buyers. A 1 kg pack of Foodlabo Saikoro wagyu cubes is ₱1,299, while the 1 kg Classic Gold Ribeye in butter-aged USDA Angus is ₱1,599. The cheapest way into wagyu here is a ₱669 pack.

  • Foodlabo Saikoro Steak 500g: ₱669, 30 to 35 cubes.
  • NK Foods Beef Saikoro 500g: ₱769, 40 to 45 cubes.
  • Classic T-Bone, butter-aged USDA Angus: ₱949, 4 cuts.
  • Foodlabo Saikoro Steak 1kg: ₱1,299, 70 to 75 cubes.
  • NK Foods Beef Cubes 1kg: ₱1,499, 85 to 95 cubes.
  • Classic Gold Ribeye, butter-aged USDA Angus: ₱1,599, 1 kg, 4 cuts at half an inch.

The gap only opens at the very top. Authentic Japanese A5 ribeye runs around ₱8,500 a kilo from specialty importers, as researched July 2026, which is a different purchase entirely. Our 2026 wagyu price guide walks through the tiers in between.

Availability, August 2026: the Classic T-Bone, Classic Porterhouse, Classic Giant Ribeye and Gold Artisan Ribeye are sold out today. The Classic Gold Ribeye and all four Saikoro packs are in stock.
